From the beginning, the genesis of our program was to:

  1. Incentivize schools and students for their efforts in engaging with the mandated PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support program

  2. Provide services and programs that will combat bullying, improve student attendance and GPA, provide training and resources that will be available to both students and teachers.

    1. Simply put...kids are able to learn better and grow academically when they feel safe, both in and out of school.  Our goal is to provide life skills that will enable them to be more independent, proactive, goal oriented, and responsible.

  3. Change the overall climate within the school.

  4. Eventually create a community wide service project that we would plan and execute prior to the end of year program

Initially we attempted to accomplish this through teachers/administrators rewarding kind acts and positive behavior with a card or ticket that would be counted and the school with the most student body percentage engaged in their PBIS program received a grant, donated through local business and private sponsors.  Over the past few years we have been able to see amazing growth that has actually caught the attention of other schools across the country who are wanting us to help them implement our Kindness Counts program into their schools as well. While we’re excited about the success and growth of our program, this year we are revamping our program to do more.

Beginning in August of 2019, each school will be evaluated on a four-facet evaluation system.

  1. Card/Ticket Counts (25%)

    1. We’ll continue counting the individual cards/tickets, just as we have in the past, but they will only be worth 25% of the overall score.  The school with the most counts will receive 10 points, second place 9 points, third place 8 points, etc. Top 10 schools will receive points available in this category.

  2. SET (School wide Evaluation Tool) score (25%)

    1. We utilize the S.E.T (School wide Evaluation Tool) score to evaluate the school’s performance.  It measures attendance, disciplinary issues among students, behavioral issues, and substance abuse. The school with the highest score at the end of the year receives receives 10 points, second place 9 points, third place 8 points, etc.  Top 10 schools will receive points available in this category.

  3. SET Improvement (25%)

    1. Each school is evaluated at the beginning of the year and again towards the end of the year.  The school with the most improvement in the SET score at the end of the year will receive 10 points, second place 9 points, third place 8 points, etc.  Top 10 schools will receive points available in this category.

  4. Unbiased Board Results (25%)

    1. We have caught the attention of an organization in Virginia who are wanting to take the #KC model and apply it to other districts across the United States and they will make up a board who will take from what has been done in the individual schools to engage their students in their PBIS program and choose the top 10 schools based on that data.  First place receives 10 points, second place 9 points, third place 8 points, etc. Top 10 schools will receive points available in this category.

From that overall score, comprised of all four categories, the overall winning school will receive a $3,000 grant (Donated by local sponsors) and the Kindness Counts Bench, donated by the group in Virginia (Kindness4Kate.org).

  • Beautiful Rod Iron Bench that says “Kind Acts Touch Everyone”

  • Each year the winning school will receive the bench to display in their school as a

“trophy” until the next year’s winning school is announced at the End of Year Program.

Each school will have a #KC Rep to create a “Kindness Club” to involve the students in

We have seen that the schools with the most success in their individual PBIS programs are the schools who allow their students to be on the front lines of planning and executing activities within their school

    • This teaches them time management, responsibility, and event planning.  Allows them to feel a sense of accomplishment and pride when they see an idea of theirs come to life

    • The role of the #KC Rep is to support, facilitate, and provide tools to make those ideas come to life.

        • Students can choose to be involved at anytime throughout the year, they will receive a #KC T-Shirt, signature of your school with colors and images

        • These #KC Club students will be the school’s PBIS Ambassadors

BIG ticket item donated to EVERY school.

    • Through the support of local businesses like you, we will be donating a “big ticket item” to EVERY school to be drawn for at the end of the year from the cards/tickets given to students throughout the year.  EVERY school is celebrated. EVERY student eligible. EVERY school is highlighted.

    • These “big ticket items” may be a mini motor bike, go-cart, motorized scooter, chromebook, etc.

    • Each school will showcase their roped off item in the entry of every school with the business that is sponsoring the item above it. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE ADVERTISING TOOL!  This means that every student, every parent, teacher, administrator, aunt, uncle, grandparent that walks into the school ALL YEAR LONG sees your business displayed above the “Big Ticket Item” throughout the year

AS A SPONSOR, WHERE DOES MY DONATION GO?

We think it is important for you as a valued sponsor to know where your donation is allocated.  While we are actively applying for grants to assist and support our program, currently 100% of the program is funded by local sponsors and we hope you know how grateful we truly are for the support given and continue to give.  Costs associated with the #KC program include:

#KC Specific supplies for programs associated with the #KC club

Kindness Counts is an independent program that supplements the district’s PBIS program which means we are not eligible to receive money or supplies through the state or district (outside of grants that we specifically and independently apply for).  We have to provide our own.

  •  Individual program supplies-16 schools at $750 for the year allowance per school

    • Each school will need to order their own supplies for construction paper, posters, copies, etc., for their own school to carry out their individualized PBIS program.  Any activity planned through the individual school will be paid through this annual budget

      • Paper, glue, pencils, colored pencils, etc for the students to be able to plan and carry out activities to get their peers involved in their PBIS program

      • Incentives for the students (Treats, food, drink, field trips, etc)

  • School Shirts- 16 schools at $500 for the year allowance per school

    • Each school’s #KC club will have their own #KC shirts that will be unique to their school.  Students who choose to join the club and have an active role in representing the #KC club as an ambassador will have a shirt to set them apart

End of Year Program

  • We use this event to showcase and highlight the different schools throughout the county, recognize and commend each school’s Teacher/Student of the Year, and announce the overall Student/Teacher of the Year and the recipient of the Kindness Counts Overall School.
